Engage Super League goes mobile for the first time

21st April 2011

European rugby league launches multi-platform strategy

InfoMedia, the mobile agency, has launched Engage Super League's mobile media, with William Hill on board as the first commercial partner.

Over the past week InfoMedia has launched an official Super League mobile internet site plus apps in the Ovi, iTunes and Android Market stores.

Free to rugby league fans around the world, the service offers video match highlights, weekly video bulletins, club news articles, scores, fixtures, tables and player profiles.

Matt Trumble, digital manager at the Rugby Football League said: "Getting digital content out to millions of Super League fans is one of our primary objectives. Mobile media platforms offer us new and fast-growing channels to provide rugby league fans with exciting content - wherever they are."

In addition to creating and managing the mobile media, InfoMedia is overseeing the commercialisation of the apps through sponsorship and advertising.

William Hill has taken the primary ad banner slot exclusively for the remainder of this rugby league season, while InfoMedia is in discussions with other brands about sponsorship of the app including naming rights.

Tim Satchell, commercial director, InfoMedia, said: "Super League is an exciting project for us as the revenue model revolves around advertising and sponsorship which we believe will be a growing and significant part of our business in coming years.

"It also adds a high profile premium sports brand to another fast growing area of our business, sports media, where we are also working with the likes of Manchester United FC, Arsenal FC, Liverpool FC, Everton FC and TEAMtalk Media."

InfoMedia was appointed by the Rugby Football League as its mobile partner following a tender process last year managed by IMG Media.
